Toby Larson
Hello, I am Dr. Toby Larson, and I am a Counselor in Training at Aspen Valley Wellness working towards licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in Utah. I am currently completing my master’s in clinical mental health counseling through the University of Western States (on-line). I also have a Master’s in Kinesiology and Ed.D. in Sports and Performance Psychology. In the past, I have worked as a high school math teacher, mental performance coach for UFC, Freeride World Tour, and Crankworx athletes, and a stay-at-home father. Much of my life has been focused on being present as a coach, teacher or parent; fostering growth mindsets among my students, athletes, and family; and helping those I work with discover their own strengths.
I work primarily with children, teens, and young adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, feelings of being overwhelmed, and struggles with self-worth. I also help parents who are facing struggles. My style is person-centered, blending mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral strategies. My counseling focus is on helping youth learn to accept themselves as they are so they can grow into who they hope to become. In therapy, I aim to provide a safe, supportive, and empowering space where clients feel seen and valued.
Much of my life has been focused on being present—whether as a coach, teacher, or parent. In each of these roles, I’ve worked to foster growth mindsets and help others discover their strengths. My desire to do therapeutic work comes from a long history of helping people from a variety of roles and perspectives. As both a counselor-in-training and a parent, I bring compassion for the struggles youth face and a strong commitment to walking with families through these important years.
Outside of counseling, I enjoy skiing, mountain biking, and spending time in nature, which helps me stay balanced and grounded.
